The Doorway to Hell

The greatest experiment by soviet scientists of all time

What if i told you that 55 years back, humans accidently entered a place they were never destined to? ☠️

In the Kola peninsula of Russia lies a scientific experiment that pushed the boundaries of human curiosity—the Kola Superdeep Borehole, which is famously known as the deepest hole ever dug by mankind.

In 1970, soviet scientists teamed together to drill as deep as possible to earths core. 20 years of drilling got them to an astounding depth of 12,262 meters(12.2 km) below the earth. 🌍

This was to better understand the Earth’s layers and geology which provided incredible insights. At depths over 7 km, they encountered water trapped in microscopic rock pores where it shouldn’t have existed and also found many fossils dating back to 2 billion years back.

They couldn’t drill further as the heat was increasing much higher than anticipated, making further advancement almost impossible + funding stopped.

After a while, they sent down a microphone to unveil sounds at that depths. The results were not expected, the sound were absolutely terrifying and screams could be heard at a large magnitude., almost like they had entered hell👺. You can hear it for yourself in this YT video. 💀 https://youtu.be/Yw2I9fPd9nQ?si=Q7tRiPf5kB5WkcmQ.

So far, we still don’t know what lies in the center of earth. Maybe it is filled with lush forests and creatures we have never seen before, just like in the movie Journey to the Center of the Earth. 🌴
