The man behind ChatGPT

the man, the myth, the legend

Everyone has heard about ChatGPT, but not many know the man behind it.

Sam Altman was born in 1985. By the time he co-founded OpenAI in 2015, he was already a notable figure in Silicon Valley.

Previously he was the president of Y Combinator, which hothoused companies like Airbnb and dropbox.

Altman launched OpenAI(parent company of ChatGPT) with tech billionaires Elon Musk and Reid Hoffman, with the aim of creating better tech to benefit humanity(although job displacements are a thing 💀).

As OpenAI began to gain traction, a series of disagreements arose between Altman and Musk.

The first reported friction occurred in early 2018, when Musk felt that progress at the organization was too slow and he wanted leadership for himself.

When this suggestion was rejected, Musk stepped down from his board position.

Afterwards, under Altman's leadership OpenAI released ChatGPT in November 2022. This advanced chatbot quickly captured public attention for its ability to generate human-like text responses across various topics.

But success comes with its own problems.

In November 2023, Altman was suddenly ousted by OpenAI's board for his approach to artificial intelligence safety and allegedly abusive behavior.

He was reinstated shortly thereafter after pressure from employees and investors.

Today, Sam Altman's journey reflects both the promise and peril of leading an organization at the forefront of technological innovation

His commitments towards the field of Artificial Intelligence are very praiseworthy, and he ascertains a notion of having the perfect blend between ambition and responsibilities in this rapidly upcoming field.
